In the 1930s, as the romance of aviation captured the imagination of the American nation, Waco became the largest manufacturer of personal and training aircraft in the United State. Nearly 4,000 aircraft had been built by 1939. The company's large selection of biplanes, ranging from the open cockpit CSO and CTO Taperwing to the comfortable four-sear Custom Cabin models, not only dominated the American scene but also penetrated the private flying market and military operations of many overseas countries.
